Follow along with this step-by-step video guide:

Step 1: Upload and Prepare Your Image

Start by uploading your sticker design into Cricut Design Space. If needed, remove the background and insert the cut file onto your canvas. Adjust the color for better visibility; in this tutorial, I’m changing mine to red.

Step 2: Create the Outline with the Offset Feature

To add an outline, click on the Offset button in the top toolbar. A menu will appear where you can:

  • Adjust the thickness using the slider or manually input a measurement.
  • Choose between rounded or pointy edges.
  • Create an inner offset if desired.

Once you’re happy with the outline, click “Apply” and change the offset color. In the Layers panel, you’ll see the offset as a separate cut layer.

Step 3: Fixing Inner Cutouts

If your design contains text or images with gaps, you might see inner cutouts. To remove them:

  1. Select the offset layer.
  2. Click “Contour” in the bottom right corner.
  3. Remove unwanted inner cutouts to create a solid background.

Step 4: Resize and Prepare for Cutting

Resize your sticker to the desired dimensions. Click “Make It,” and if you used multiple colors, Cricut will automatically separate them onto different mats. Set your material type (e.g., vinyl or sticker paper) and cut both layers.

Step 5: Layering Your Sticker

There are two ways to layer your sticker:

Method 1: Using Transfer Tape and Parchment Paper

  • Weed both sticker layers and cut a piece of transfer tape slightly larger than your design.
  • Use parchment paper to help align the layers.
  • Stick the top layer to the transfer tape, then carefully position it over the bottom layer.
  • Once aligned, remove the parchment paper and press the layers together.

Now your sticker is on one transfer sheet, ready to be applied!

Method 2: Layering Directly on the Surface

  • Stick the bottom layer directly onto your surface.
  • Use transfer tape to pick up the next layer and apply it on top.
  • This method is great for certain materials and intricate designs.

Final Results

And that’s it! Your sticker is now complete with a crisp, professional-looking outline. In this project, I used the offset feature to create a sign for my in-law’s cottage, and the white outline really made it pop.
