In today’s tutorial, I’ll walk you through how to create a tumbler using scrapbook paper and UV resin! This video tutorial explains each step in-depth, or keep scrolling to read all about it

Step 1: Trim the scrapbook paper to hide the seams.

When wrapping a tumbler with scrapbook paper, there will be a visible hard line at the edge of the paper. The best way to hide this is to trim one edge of the paper in the shape of the pattern that’s on it, so it blends in when you overlap it. For example, if your scrapbook paper had flowers all over it, you could cut around the individual flowers. In my case, there are wavy lines in the pattern of this world map paper, so I used a craft knife to carefully cut along that line.

This centre circle doesn’t quite look seamless – but it will be covered by the vinyl decal I’m adding, so I’m not worried!

Step 2: Apply the scrapbook paper to the tumbler using Mod Podge.

Use a foam brush to apply a generous coat of Mod Podge to the tumbler. Wrap the scrapbook paper around the tumbler as tightly as possible, pressing out any bubbles along the way with a scraper. Apply more Mod Podge under the overlapped seam to secure it in place. Once all the bubbles are out, apply one final coat of Mod Podge over the entire tumbler and allow it to dry for at least an hour.

Step 3: Trim the excess scrapbook paper.

Once the Mod Podge is dry, the scrapbook paper will be stiff and easy to cut. Use a craft knife to trim the excess scrapbook paper at the top and bottom edges of the tumbler, pressing the side of the blade to the edge of the tumbler to get the cut as perfect as possible.

Step 4: Apply a layer of resin.

Seal the scrapbook paper with a coat of resin. I am using UV resin, but you can use your preferred epoxy. I use a lighter to remove any bubbles, do a quick cure with a UV flashlight so nothing is dripping, and then transfer my tumbler turner outside to finish curing in the sunlight.

Step 5: Apply a vinyl decal (optional).

I applied a compass decal to my tumbler using gold sparkly vinyl and black removable vinyl. The gold vinyl is from Dollar Tree and I find it impossible to layer with, so I applied a layer of resin after the gold vinyl to give the black vinyl something to stick to. But if you’re using vinyl that layers properly, there is no need to do a layer of resin between each layer!

Step 6: Apply glitter to the bottom of the tumbler.

Apply another coat of Mod Podge to the bottom of your tumbler, and shake some gold glitter all over to coat it. Let this dry for about 30 minutes before sealing with another layer of Mod Podge.

Step 6: Apply a final layer of resin.

Seal everything in with one final layer of resin, making sure to cover the glitter on the bottom as well.

You did it!
