It can be so tricky to wrap small or oddly-shaped gifts. These cute gift bags are the perfect solution! They are fast, affordable, and easy to make. The same steps can be followed to make any size gift bag, and with all the different patterns of wrapping paper and ribbon out there, the possibilities are endless!
Here is a quick video of little gift bags I made for bath bombs – or keep scrolling for step by step instructions.
Step 1: Start with a wrapping paper rectangle.
Make sure your rectangle is big enough that when folded in half, your item can fit inside it.

Step 2: Fold the sides in and tape.
Fold the left and right sides to meet in the middle and secure in place with tape. Run your finger along each fold to crease it.

Step 3: Create the gift bag base.
Fold the bottom up and crease along the fold. Separate the two layers leaving just the top half folded upward, then tuck the left and right sides in to create two triangles. Crease along the folds.

Step 4: Secure the base with tape.
Fold the top and bottom layers to meet in the middle. Crease along the folds and tape to secure.

Step 5: Crease the left and right edges.
Slightly fold the left and right sides of the bag inward and crease along the folds.

Step 6: Tuck in the sides of the bag.
Push the left and right outer edges inside the bag and re-crease along the folds you made in step 5.

Step 7: Insert gift and close.
Put your gift in the bag and fold the opening of the bag over to close it.

Step 8: Pierce holes and fasten with ribbon.
Use scissors to (carefully!) pierce two holes through both layers of the closing flap. Thread ribbon through one hold front to back, then the other back to front, and tie together with a double knot. Curl the ends of the ribbon with scissors.

That’s it!
I made tons of these little bags for the small gifts I had for my coworkers this year. I made a much larger one to wrap a frying pan so it wouldn’t be obvious what was inside!
These bags are perfect for all of those random scrap pieces of wrapping paper you end up with. I hope you have fun mixing and matching different types of ribbon and paper. I’d love to see your creations! Tag me on Facebook and Instagram @misselizabethsparkles.
