Step 1: Upload and Resize Your Design
Start by uploading your design to Cricut Design Space. Resize your image to fit your shirt by measuring the space with a measuring tape. Once sized, click “Make It” in the top right corner to proceed to the mat preview.
Step 2: Mirror Your Design
Since we are working with heat transfer vinyl, it’s crucial to turn on the “Mirror” toggle in the left toolbar. This flips your design so that it appears correctly when ironed onto your fabric.
Step 3: Select Material and Cut
- Click Continue and connect your Cricut machine.
- Set the material to Glitter Iron-On Vinyl.
- Select More Pressure for a clean cut.
- Ensure the Fine Point Blade is loaded in your machine.
- Place your vinyl shiny side down on the cutting mat.
Step 4: Weed the Design
After cutting, use a hook tool to weed out the excess vinyl. Glitter vinyl can be tricky to weed because the cut lines are harder to see. Try holding it up to a light source or using the “Draw and Cut” function to outline your design with a marker.
Step 5: Prepare for Heat Transfer
Refer to Cricut’s Heat Guide for recommended settings based on your materials. If using a household iron, approximate the temperature and follow these steps:
- Use a heat press mat (or a towel if you don’t have one).
- Place the mat inside the shirt under the design area.
- Preheat the fabric with your iron for a few seconds.
Step 6: Apply the Design
Align your design using a T-shirt ruler or by folding the shirt in half and ironing a crease as a guide. Then, apply heat as follows:
- Press your iron down on one section for 30 seconds with light pressure.
- Move across the design, repeating this process.
- Flip the shirt inside out and iron from the back for 15 seconds.
Step 7: Cool Peel & Finishing Touches
Allow the design to cool before peeling off the carrier sheet. If any part lifts, reapply heat and press again. For best results, always wash and dry your shirt before applying HTV to prevent shrinkage issues.

Durability & Care Tips
Cricut claims their iron-on vinyl lasts for 50+ washes. Wash garments inside out for longevity. My glitter HTV projects have held up well and remain sparkly after multiple washes!
